After engagement sessions have past many couples find themselves trying to decide whether or not they need to send out Save the Dates. You think most of our family and friends already know when and where we are getting married, right? Why do we need to send out a postcard for them to put on their fridge? There are a few pro’s and con’s to why and when to send out Save the Dates.
First, think about who is going to be invited to your wedding. Do they all live nearby? Will anyone have to fly or drive long distance? Do you know people that will have to give advance notice to get off work? If so, Save the Dates can be very helpful for those individuals. Your wedding day is going to be on your mind everyday but that doesn't mean it wilal be on everyone else's. It’s only fair to help remind them. Plus they get a beautiful picture of you two to display in their home. It's a win, win situation.
Okay, you decided you want to send out Save the Dates to your guests. Next question is when is the right time to send them. Again, that really depends on your guests and where they are going to be traveling from. If you know airfare is going to be purchased for some guests I would recommend sending them out 9 months in advance. If the majority of guests are fairly local then closer to 6 months is acceptable.
The most important thing to remember is there is no perfect timeline. Every wedding, every couple, is unique. You have to do what is going to be best for your wedding and your guests. When in doubt, never be afraid to ask your photographer. They are always there to help you and provide advice through your entire planning process.
