I met up with Melissa and Tom on April 22nd at Veterans Terrace in Burlington, WI, for an amazing engagement session.
Melissa and Tom got engaged this past Christmas Eve at Petrifying Springs Park. They had talked about taking a break from the craziness of the holidays to talk a walk at the park, and both of them were excited, because neither of them had been to that park before. But unbeknownst to Melissa, Tom had planned to have two of his friends hiding near a wooden bridge in the park to capture his proposal there, so as they were trying to “find” a good spot for their walk, he was totally stunned when she spotted the bridge and suggested they go there. Tom panicked, thinking the gig was up, but it really was just a random happenstance!
Since it was December in Wisconsin and, for some reason, Melissa hadn’t tied her shoes before walking through the snow to the bridge, she ended up stopping at exactly the spot Tom had marked in the snow. He seized the opportunity she had unwittingly provided him and got down on one knee to propose right there—all while Tom’s friends caught the whole thing on camera!
Now, while Tom had no problem setting up the proposal on camera, he hates taking pictures otherwise. So, he wasn’t looking forward to an engagement shoot, begrudgingly agreeing to it like he did with all pictures. But part of my job as a photographer is to make clients feel comfortable, so I tried to set a natural, fun tone for the whole shoot that eventually got Tom to loosen up and even enjoy himself!
Melissa & Tom, thank you for choosing me to be your engagement photographer. I loved getting to work with you both and to learn your story!
